Napa Valley Wine Train · Napa
You ride upstairs in a glass-domed Pullman car while a multi-course lunch or dinner comes out of the kitchen on board, on a 36-mile round trip from Napa to St. Helena. Book it for the meal and the view through the glass, not for wine tasting: the train makes no winery stops.

The Vista Dome is the Wine Train's top car: a 1952 Pullman with a glass roof, mahogany, brass and etched glass, and seats upstairs. The Wine Train calls it one of only 10 glass-domed observation cars ever built. The train leaves the station at 1275 McKinstry Street in downtown Napa and runs 36 miles up the valley to St. Helena and back, with vineyards on both sides.
The food is the product. Lunch is four courses cooked on board, and the official timetable has you checking in at 10:30, departing at 11:30 and back at the station around 2:30 pm. The listing shows 2 to 3 hours; the lunch run is three. There's also an evening dinner version. You get one welcome glass of California sparkling wine; every other drink is bought on board. Despite the name, this package has no winery stops.
Is it worth $410? If you want a long, beautiful lunch with the valley sliding past, yes, and the event fee is in the price. If you want to taste wine, no: $410 buys a full tour plus tasting fees elsewhere. Children under 13 and people with mobility impairments can't book this listing, and cancellation closes 2 days before, not 24 hours. Our Wine Train guide compares the other journeys.
Staff call boarding by seating section about 30 minutes before departure.
A photo in front of the train, then up into the Vista Dome.
A welcome glass as the train pulls out of Napa.
Lunch is served on the way to St. Helena and back. Walk through the other cars between courses.
The train returns to the station. Dinner runs follow the same pattern in the evening.
